I love nothing more than getting comments on the posts that I write. That is absolutely counterintuitive to my typical self, which seeks to avoid any recognition or feedback on anything that I do. I am one of those people who would almost forgo the raise associated with my annual performance review if it meant that I didn’t have to sit there and suffer through a review. You know, one filled with horrible torture, like GREAT JOB and ROLE MODEL and SUCCESS. Yeah, I’ve got issues. So, it is slightly disconcerting that I enjoy comments on my blog so much.
Where is Freud when you need him? Let’s be honest, what good would Freud be anyway? We can all just assume that somehow it is related to repressed memories from childhood, right? Or maybe in some previous life I was a motivational speaker who was heckled off the stage?
Anyway, I have to admit, I am lousy at leaving comments. I just am. I read a laundry-list of great blogs every day. Rarely do I leave a comment. I am not sure why. Sometimes I can’t think of anything clever. Othertimes I am on my phone, which doesn’t allow comment posts. Other times, I can’t quite figure how to disguise that pop-up window on my browser to look like work. You know, since I am at work and all.
That does not mean that I do not love certain blogs, or certain posts. I like some blogs so much that my day wouldn’t quite be the same without them. First of all, I love to read. Second of all, I love to laugh. Third, I love things that are well written. I’ve been a reading junkie all of my life; you know, the kid that would wake up on a Saturday morning and read in my room. Is someone searching for my pocket protector? I seem to have misplaced it along with my TI-83. Blogs are so much better though, because in most cases, they don’t end. Let’s be honest, how annoying is it to find yourself totally invested in a book, the storyline, the characters, then it is over. O-V-E-R, over. Are you kidding me? I am totally wrapped up in their life and they are gone. Poof.
What, are you thinking that requires another psychoanalysis? I can’t trust you people with any secrets, can I?
My point? I swear, I have a point. My point is that while I don’t comment often, I have many bloggers I love and many posts that make my day. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve added a great little section over on the right side of my blog to highlight links that I love. It's right there above my godawful mug shot. I encourage you to check each of them out when I add a new link. I won’t disappoint, I swear. If I do, then maybe your taste is in question. I'm just sayin'
If you ever have a post of your own, or someone else’s that you’d like me to check out, email me at lyndsay@iusedtobewitty.com, or leave me a comment. It's my one-cheek (half-assed) way of making up for my comment-delinquency. I pinky-swear to read all of your recommendations. I’ve got to warn you though, I am pretty damn picky.
Okay, I’ve sufficiently avoided homework long enough, back to the grind!

You probably don't know this, how could you really, but you were one of the very first blogs I followed. Way back in Nov of 08. I am always glad to see you in my comment section!
I was awesome about commenting until I started following a lot of awesome folks. Then I got overwhelmed and ended up using Google Reader. Now, I admit, I often read there and don't always click through to comment. Especially when at work and using my "covert" connection - graphics and such don't load so well.
Am I required to have a point? Because I don't really.
I am so the same way! When I used to have more time on my hands, I was able to comment on tons og blogs. Now, I find myself reading, but not making the effort to comment. Of course, it has now come back to haunt me because I can tell my readership is down. You know how when you comment other people are bound to check you out. Yeah, I wish I could force myself to comment everytime. I just can't! But this comment is just for you!
haha! I totally know what you mean! I truly love the comments too! (and I literally DREAD getting a bonus at work if they are going to make a big deal out of it publically...Just keep it - it usually ends up f'in me in taxes anyway!)
However, I also have catholic guilt wrapped up in there - so then if I don't comment, I feel like people's feelings might get hurt -- there are a few people who regularly comment and when they don't, I get worried they broke up with me, or they are sick...
I clearly need help.
I don't comment much even though I read yours and some other blogs every day (more that I actually admit to following on my bolg!). It's usually a time thing and I hate commenting using my iPod.
Anyway some of the things you write sound so much like me! Reading sat am!? I've stopped being offended when no one comments on my blog - although my RL friends assure me they are out there!

You and I are a bit alike in that I read more than I comment and have a desperate need for comments on my stuff. Assuming you haven't stopped by my blog, give it a look. Of course, I won't know if you do or don't, so I guess I'll just pretend that you were there and would have commented if you'd had a chance and could think of something clever. See? No pressure! You've nothing to lose. http://idiotsstew.blogspot.com
I think bloggers crave comments so much because it is like putting a little bit of yourself out there and it is sad if no one seems to like it or read it. But I'm working on not NEEDING comments so much and just enjoying the writing process. ;)
Great idea!
You're not giving yourself enough credit. You comment more than you know. But I know exactly how you feel. Stupid work keeps getting in the way! How does the boss expect me to blogg AND get his work done?? Honestly!
I gave you an award. Come on by and pick it up.
Spreading comment love here...
xoxo-Rambler fairy.
Sometime we should talk about the performance appraisal process I put in place at Ye Olde Job. Even the people who HATED pa's got so they could tolerate them.
Have a wonderful Mother's Day!
I've been lurking for a while, but am coming out to say, "I hear ya, Sister."
I'm the same way! I'm on my Palm 95% of the time, and some comment forms just won't play nicely with me.
Or, I "star" something in my reader because I have a totally witty comment to make when I get back to my big-girl computer, but when I log in, I have fifty-seven new entries to read or one of my seven kids has a crisis and I get pulled away...
Way to own your stuff there, girlfriend... you bronze that, and hang it from your rearview mirror!
Oh, and need I extend an invitation to my blog? It's all about my nutty life, juggling my seven kidoodles and being wife to a political junkie/lobbyist. Enjoy my neuroticism.
You and me both! I love comments, yet I always seem remiss when it comes to actually leaving them for other people.
I've actually become so spoiled by comments that I forget what it was like in the old days when no one (not even my Mom) read my blog and I always had 0 comments. Now if I only get 2 or 3, I get all bitter. I guess I need some perspective!
Great idea about your new section, I can't wait to check out some of your favorite posts!
I read your blog all the time. Love it!
